Men's Basketball drops tight contest with ONU

The Muskingum men's basketball team dropped a tight contest with Ohio Northern Saturday afternoon at the Anne C. Steele Center, 91-85.

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (10-5 overall, 4-4 OAC), Ohio Northern (8-7 overall, 6-2 OAC)

Game Notes

  • Senior Joshua Keyes notched his eighth double-double of the season recording 15 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
  • Sophomore Jarrell Marsh posted a game-high 29 points on 11-of-23 (.478) shooting from the field.
  • Freshman Marcus Dempsey chipped in 21 points and recorded five rebounds.
  • Muskingum shot 33-for-69 (.478) from the field, including 10-for-14 (.714) from the free throw line.
  • The Polar Bears finished with five players in double figures.
  • Ryan Bruns led the way posting a double-double netting a team-high 21 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
  • Joey DiOrio finished with 18 points, while Konnor Baker added 16 points.
  • Northern ended the contest shooting 36-for-70 (.514) from the field.

First Half

  • The Muskies used a 7-0 run with 10:21 to paly to claim the 27-22 advantage.
  • ONU responded as back-to-back layups by Bruns knotted the score at 36-36 with 4:15 remaining.
  • The Polar Bears outscored the Muskies 8-4 in the final three minutes of action to take the 49-42 halftime lead.
  • Marsh led the Muskies recording 14 first-half points on 6-of-12 (.500) shooting from the floor.

Second Half

  • The Muskies erased a 73-60 deficit with 10:27 to play using a 10-2 run over the next three minutes to pull within 75-70 with 7:45 on the clock.
  • The contest remained tight through the final seven minutes of action as sophomore Jalen Paige connected from behind the arc to pull the Muskies within 89-85 with 25 seconds remaining.
  • ONU was able to withstand the Muskie pressure and sink a pair of key free throws en route to the victory.
