Marietta cruises past Muskingum with strong second half

The 13th-ranked Marietta Pioneers outscored Muskingum 58-28 in the second half to break open a close game en route to a 100-64 Ohio Athletic Conference win on Wednesday night.

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (8-4 overall, 2-3 OAC), Marietta (9-3 overall, 4-1 OAC)
  • Location: New Concord, Ohio - Anne C. Steele Center

First Half

  • Muskingum jumped out to a 12-4 lead through the opening four minutes of play. The surge was highlighted by two three-point shots from sophomore Jalen Paige.
  • Marietta answered the early Muskie run with an 18-3 outburst over the next five minutes to take a 22-15 lead.
  • The Pioneers maintained the lead throughout the remainder of the half and took a 42-36 lead into the break after Keith Richardson hit a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Second Half 

  • Marietta shot .571 (20-of-35) from the floor and used an 18-0 run over a six-minute span that started at the 15:18 mark to take control of the game.

Post Game

  • Muskingum senior Joshua Keyes logged his sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Sophomore Jarrell Marsh scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed five rebounds.
  • Freshman Marcus Dempsey had 10 points and three boards.
  • Paige added 10 points to help aid the Muskie effort.
  • Muskingum ended the game shooting .367 (22-of-60) from the floor.
  • Marietta was paced by Anthony Wallace who scored a game-high 23 points.
  • A.J. Edwards added 14 points and six rebounds.
  • Marietta shot .529 (37-of-70) from the field and recorded 23 assists.
  • The Pioneers hit 12-of-24 three-point shots.
