The Muskingum men's basketball team notched its fourth straight win Wednesday evening defeating Oberlin 87-73 en route to its best start since the 2006-07 season.
The Basics
- Records: Muskingum (4-0 overall), Oberlin (1-4 overall)
- Location: New Concord, Ohio - Anne C. Steele Center
First Half
- The Muskies made a statement early as they opened the half with a 6-0 run capped off by a three-pointer from senior Rickey Wilson.
- With 13:30 to play, junior Jacob Geller connected from downtown sparking a Muskie 12-0 run that pushed the lead to 21-7.
- Oberlin responded with an 11-0 run cutting the deficit to 25-20 with 4:15 to play.
- In the final four minutes of action Muskingum out scored the Yeomen 11-4 to take the 37-24 lead at the break.
- Wilson led the Muskies in the first half with eight points.
- Senior Joshua Keyes pulled down 12 rebounds and added two points.
- Muskingum shot 12-for-29 (.414) from the field and 6-for-13 (.462) from three-point land.
- Oberlin was led by Jack Poyle with nine points.
- The Yeomen shot 4-for-6 (.667) from the free throw line.
Second Half
- Muskingum continued to dominate well into the second half.
- The Muskies took a 51-31 lead off a layup by freshman Marcus Dempsey at the 16:07 mark.
- Sophomore Jalen Paige sunk back-to-back three-pointers with 10:51 to play to push the lead to 65-43.
- Muskingum out scored Oberlin 50-49 in the second half to claim the victory.
- Sophomore Jarrell Marsh led the way in the second half with 16 points.
- The Muskies shot 19-for-27 (.704) from the field and 6-for-9 (.500) from behind the arc.
- The Yeomen were led by Nathan Cohen with 13 points, while Eric Holt added 11 points.
- Oberlin shot a perfect 7-for-7 (100.0) from the free throw line and 18-for-34 (.529) from the field.
Post Game
- Muskingum finished the contest with four players in double figures.
- Marsh led the way for Muskingum with a game-high 22 points.
- Wilson added 16 points, while Dempsey chipped in 15 points and Paige recorded 13 points.
- For the fourth straight game, Keyes finished with double-digit rebounds pulling down a game-high 14.
- Muskingum shot 31-for-56 (.554) from the field and 12-for-22 (.545) from three-point land.
- Cohen led the way for Oberlin with 19 points.
- Poyle added 15 points, while Holt finished with 11 points.
- Oberlin shot 11-for-13 (.846) from the free throw line.
