Capital escapes Muskies' upset bid

Capital ended the final nine minutes of play on a 24-9 run to turn back Muskingum's upset bid on Wednesday night in the Rec Center, 67-53.

Muskingum (7-17, 2-15) was led by senior Dave Brown who scored a game-high 19 points, which included hitting 5-of-8 three-point shots. 

Sophomore Cody Seiler narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Junior Logan Kimble added nine points and six boards, while senior Clay Owings had six points and two assists.

The Muskies ended the outing shooting .339 (19-of-56) from the field.

Capital (12-12, 9-8) was paced by Ben Jackson's double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds. AJ Dixon also added 17 points.

The Crusaders shot .500 (26-of-52) from the floor and held a 40-31 edge in rebounds.

Capital ended the first half on a surge to take a 37-23 lead into the break.

The Muskies opened the second half with a 14-1 run to cut Capital's lead to 38-37 with 13:49 on the clock.

Muskingum took a 44-43 lead, and brought the Muskie fans screaming to their feet, on a Brown three-pointer with 9:05 to play.

Capital responded to the Muskie comeback and reeled off six straight points to take the lead for good en route to outscoring the Muskies 24-9 to close the game.

Muskingum next hosts Baldwin Wallace for Senior Day on Saturday, February 22. Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m. The Muskies will honor seniors Dave Brown, Clay Owings, Jarod Hood, Isaiah Shakespeare and Phil Ellis prior to the start of the contest.
