Muskies' upset bid falls short

The Muskingum men's basketball team's upset bid at 15th-ranked Marietta fell short on Wednesday night, 79-70.

Senior Dave Brown led the Muskies with 16 points. Junior Logan Kimble added 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Sophomore Christian Keller had 11 points and six boards, while sophomore Cody Seiler scored 11 points and registered a game-high three blocks. 

Senior Clay Owings rounded out the Muskie effort with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Muskingum (3-4, 0-4) ended the game shooting .446 (29-of-65) from the field.

Marietta (8-1, 4-0) was led by Andy Dollman's 20 points. RaNeal added a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

The Pioneers shot .421 (24-of-57) from the floor and held a 24-8 advantage in free throws made.

The Muskies led 30-16 with 6:30 to play in the opening half before the Pioneers closed the frame on a 19-6 surge to trim the Muskie lead to 36-35 at the break.

In the second half, the Pioneers slowly erased their deficit and used a midway 8-2 run to take the lead for good to turnback the Muskie upset bid.

Muskingum hits the court next against Waynesburg on Saturday, December 28. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
