Keller hits career mark to lead Muskies past Oberlin

Muskingum sophomore Christian Keller scored a career-high 33 points to lead the Muskie men's basketball team to a season opening 87-74 win at Oberlin on Sunday.

The Muskies next host Case Western Reserve University on Thursday, November 21. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. in the Recreation Center.

Keller hit 10-of-17 from the field, including draining 7-of-8 three-point shots. He also added five assists, four rebounds and one steal.

Senior Dave Brown had 16 points with five steals, four assists and two rebounds. Senior Phil Ellis added a nine-point effort and freshman Cody Kinn logged eight points and six rebounds in his Muskie debut.

The Muskies ended the outing shooting .688 (11-of-16) from behind the arc and had 14 assists to only five turnovers. Muskingum held a 19-6 advantage in points off turnovers.

Geoff Simpson led the Yeomen with 12 points and 10 boards. Oberlin ended the outing with 15 turnovers.

The Muskies used an 11-3 surge at the midway point of the opening frame to grab the momentum en route to taking a 46-37 lead into the break.

In the second half, Muskingum outscored Oberlin 20-9 through the opening seven-plus minutes of play to take a 66-46 lead and control of the game.
