Muskingum Football Head Coach Erik Ieuter has announced the hiring of Nehemiah Bowie '21 as defensive coordinator for the Muskie football program.

Bowie returns to his alma mater after working the last two seasons at Denison University as defensive backs coach and adding the title of special teams coordinator this past fall. Additionally, Bowie was the assistant recruiting coordinator for the Big Red and managed all game day visits and tours.

In 2022, Bowie helped lead Denison to an 8-2 overall record and a 6-2 mark in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). The Big Red finished tied for second in league play. In Bowie's first season at Denison in 2021, the Big Red finished 6-4 overall and 6-3 in the NCAC.

"We are thrilled to add Coach Bowie to our coaching staff," said Muskingum Football Coach Erik Ieuter. "As an alumnus of the program, his passion for Muskingum football runs deep. His impact on the team, university, and community were felt everywhere when he was a player, and we are excited to see that continue in his new role."

During Bowie's tenure at Denison, multiple student-athletes received post-season accolades, and the defensive unit ranked in the top three of the NCAC in total defense, scoring defense, defensive efficiency, and sacks. This past season, the special teams unit ranked at the top of the league in kick return, punt return average, and kick-off net average.

Bowie was a four-year letterwinner and captain for the Muskingum football program. He played defensive back and linebacker and served on the special team's unit. Bowie ended his Muskingum tenure receiving All-Ohio Athletic Conference accolades, and was recognized with All-OAC Academic honors. On campus, Bowie served as the Vice President of Muskingum's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and President of the Black Student Union.

In the spring of 2021, Bowie undertook the position of Player/Coach for the Muskie football team. He helped analyze practice film, installed game plans for the week, ran positional meetings for linebackers, and assisted in recruiting.

Bowie graduated from Muskingum in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in business with Magna Cum Laude honors.
