Football shatters records en route to delivering electrifying Senior Day win

The Muskingum football team set numerous records en route to delivering an electrifying Senior Day win against Wilmington on Saturday afternoon, 64-63.

Notables

  • Muskingum set the school record for first downs in a game with 37. The previous record was 34, established in 1999 against Hiram.
  • Senior quarterback Doug Crawford set the record for passing yards in a game (511) and total offense in a game with 578 (511 pass/67 rush). The previous records were held by Jordan Garrett, who had 482 yards passing and 492 yards of total offense against Capital in 2021.
  • Senior kicker Hunter Albers tied the school record for extra points made in a game with eight. He tied the mark held by Kevin Smith set in 1999 against Hiram.
  • Muskingum narrowly missed the school record for total offense in a game with its 679-yard outburst. The school record of 693 was set in 1957 against Marietta.
  • Muskingum's 64 points are the most in a game since 1960 when Muskingum beat Waynesburg 66-7.
  • Crawford and senior receiver Zuri Edmondson were named the Wally's Pizza Players of the Game.
  • Prior to the game, Muskingum recognized football and cheer seniors.

How it Happened

  • Muskingum outscored the Quakers 22-7 over the final 6:51 of the game to erase a 14-point deficit.
  • Following a five-play, 75-yard drive that culminated with Crawford hitting senior receiver Ja'Lin Goodman for a three-yard score, Muskingum recovered an onside kick with 6:49 on the clock. On the first play of the drive, Crawford found senior receiver Travis Roberson for a 51-yard touchdown to tie the game at 56-56.
  • Wilmington responded with a seven-play, 75-yard drive to take a 63-56 lead with 4:30 to play.
  • Muskingum answered the Quaker score with a five-play, 54-yard drive that ended with Crawford scoring on an 18-yard run. The Muskies then converted a two-point conversion with sophomore running back Donald Francis scoring to give Muskingum a 64-63 lead with 2:28 to play.
  • Muskingum freshman defensive back Darrian Morris sealed the Muskie win with an interception at the Wilmington 47-yard line with 1:33 to play.

  • Muskingum and Wilmington combined for 1,337 yards of offense and 71 first downs.
  • Crawford went 32-of-45 for 511 yards passing with five touchdowns and two interceptions. He also added 67 yards rushing and two scores.
  • Edmondson had nine receptions for 188 yards and two scores.
  • Goodman hauled in eight receptions for 119 yards and two scores.
  • Roberson ended the game with six grabs for 123 yards and one touchdown.
  • Francis rushed for 96 yards on 22 carries with one touchdown. 
  • Albers was a perfect 8-for-8 in extra-point attempts.
  • Sophomore linebacker Garrett Gurney led the defense with 11 stops.

  • Lathan Jones had 11 receptions for 196 yards and three scores.
  • Saa'lih Muhammed had 10 grabs for 148 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Nehemiah Jenkins rushed for 174 yards on 26 totes.
  • Joey Weikel led the Quaker defense with 12 hits.
  • Zac Schmidt had 11 tackles with two interceptions.
