Football Travels to John Carroll for OAC Matchup

The Muskingum football team will travel to OAC-foe John Carroll on Saturday, October 2. Kick-off is slated for 1:30 p.m. in Don Shula Stadium. Tickets are only available online and can be purchased at https://jcusports.com/sports/2018/7/12/online-ticketing.aspx.

The Matchup
The Muskies enter the contest boasting a 3-1 overall record, and a 2-1 mark in the Ohio Athletic Conference with wins over Ohio Northern and Wilmington. Most recently, the Muskies defeated Wilmington 62-14, the most points the program has scored in a single game since 1960. Muskingum erupted for a season-high 555 yards of total offense, averaging 7.2 yards per play. Leading the Muskie offense was senior quarterback Jordan Garrett with 320 yard of total offense and five touchdowns. Garrett was named OAC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts against the Quakers. Muskingum also had a strong showing defensively tallying three interceptions, with two being returned for touchdowns by junior duo Tristan Howell and Gavyn Freeland.

Garrett has been a guiding force for the Muskie offense this season totaling 944 passing yards, 119 rushing yards, and 11 touchdowns. Junior running back Donny Wilkinson has rushed for 216 yards and three scores to lead the Muskie ground game. Leading the Muskie receiving corps is sophomore Travis Roberson with a team-high three touchdowns, while junior Ja'Lin Goodman has tallied 13 receptions for a team-high 273 yards and one score. Junior Zuri Edmondson has snagged 14 catches for 258 yards, while sophomore tandem Gannon Unger and Travanti Keitt each have two touchdowns.

Defensively, freshman linebacker Azarious Williams has tallied a team-best 34 tackles, while junior Tristan Howell has registered 27 stops and two interceptions. Senior Brian Brown has also tallied two forced fumbles, and one interception.

As a team, the Muskies rank fourth in the OAC in points (36 PPG) and yards per game (399 YPG). Muskingum is led by captains Garrett, Brown, senior defensive back Cortez McGinnis, and senior offensive lineman Iggy Horvath.

John Carroll enters the contest with a 1-2 overall record and a 1-1 mark in the OAC. The Blue Streaks dropped their season-opener with Washington & Jefferson 21-14, but bounced back with an OAC-opening winning against Otterbein, 41-17. Most recently, John Carroll was defeated by fourth-ranked Mount Union, 28-14.

Jake Floriea leads the Blue Streak offense with 614 total passing yards and five passing touchdowns. Floriea averages 204 YPG and has completed 58.8 percent of his passing attempts.

Luke Brown and Tyshawn Jones have led the Blue Streak defense with 25 tackles each. Ross Valenti leads the team with three sacks thus far, and he's also tallied 3.5 tackles for a loss.
