Muskingum Football hosts Otterbein for Homecoming

The Muskingum Football team hosts Ohio Athletic Conference foe Otterbein for Homecoming on Saturday, October 20. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in McConagha Stadium.

Notables

  • The contest marks Muskingum's 97th Homecoming.
  • At halftime, Muskingum will honor the 1978 Men's Golf OAC Championship team, the 1988 Men's Basketball OAC Championship team, and the 1998 Softball OAC Championship team. Also during the break, Muskingum will crown the Homecoming King and Queen.
  • Genesis Healthcare System is the official GAMEDAY sponsor and will be recognized on the field between the first and second quarters. Additionally, at the conclusion of the contest a student-athlete from each team will be recognized as the Genesis Healthcare System Players of the Game.

GAMEDAY

  • The Touchdown Tent, which is located behind the east end zone, provides field-level viewing, snacks and drinks to members who join the Muskie Athletic Club at the MVP-Black, All-Conference-Black, All-American, Champion, and Society levels. Access to the Touchdown Tent is reserved for members 21 and over.
  • Muskingum's new M Zone student section is located behind the west end zone. Muskie students are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets and become the new 12th man for the Muskie football team. A valid Muskingum student ID is required for admittance. 
  • The Muskie Tailgate area for parents, alumni and fans is located in the Stag/Ulster parking lot and features Muskingum's student radio station WMCO 90.7 FM. The tailgate area will open three hours prior to kickoff.
  • The visiting tailgate area is located in the Cambridge Hill parking lot. 

The Matchup

  • Muskingum leads the all-time series 39-36-2. The rivalry began in 1905.
  • Muskingum enters the game at 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
  • Otterbein arrives in New Concord at 1-5 overall and 0-5 mark in the OAC.

Inside The Muskie Numbers

  • Muskingum is averaging 18.3 points and 311 yards per game. The Muskies are allowing 37.3 points and 388.7 yards per outing.
  • Muskingum sophomore quarterback Brody Hahn directs the Muskingum offense. He has thrown for 873 yards and four scores on 66-of-144 passing. Hahn has also added 232 yards rushing and two scores on 58 totes.
  • Sophomore Cameron Near and senior Warren Wilson lead the rushing attack with 200 and 182 yards, respectively. Wilson has a pair of scores and has three receiving touchdowns too.
  • Sophomore wide out Terry Geiger paces the receiving core with 20 receptions for 337 yards and two touchdowns. Senior tight end Granger Long has 16 grabs for 241 yards and two scores.
  • Muskingum's defense is anchored by senior linebacker Brandon Schon who has racked up 58 stops and one interception return for a touchdown (41 yards).
  • Junior defensive end Tim Ousley is second on the squad with 44 hits, and sophomore defensive back Brian Brown is third with 37. Ousley also leads the team with 10 tackles for loss for 42 yards, and Brown has a team-best six pass break-ups.
  • Sophomore punter Jarett Patton is averaging 33.6 yards per boot and has placed three punts inside the 20. He has a long punt of 45 yards.
  • Freshman kicker Gavin Costello has converted his only field goal attempt (37 yards), and sophomore Ross Barnett is 1-for-2 in field goals (23 yards).

Inside The Cardinal Numbers

  • Otterbein is averaging 6.8 points and 191.2 yards per game. The Cardinals are allowing 29.2 points and 363.2 yards per outing.
  • Senior Steven Irwin leads the offense for the Cardinals. He has thrown for 550 yards on 54-of-115 passing with one touchdown. He also has rushed for 157 yards.
  • Senior Dakota Smith has rushed for 122 yards on 45 carries, and Junior Orlando Burgy has added 89 yards rushing and one score on 27 totes.
  • Senior wide out Payton Vanderkooi has a team-high 14 receptions for 201 yards. Sophomore receiver George Redding has 13 grabs for 137 yards.
  • Junior linebacker Ryan Tuchow leads the defensive effort with 57 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Sophomore linebacker Jacob Tiell is second on the team with 46 hits and 4.5 sacks.
  • Junior punter Luke Green-Lauber is averaging 39.5 yards per punt and has placed 11 inside the 20. He has a long boot of 69 yards.
  • Sophomore kicker David Hoyle is 2-for-5 in field goal attempts.
