Jones, Fishel, and Weck set to play at D3 All-Star Games

Muskingum football senior wide receiver Damon Jones was selected to the 2017 National Bowl in Daytona Beach, Florida, while senior linebacker Mick Fishel and senior defensive end Chris Weck were selected to play in the D3 Senior Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

For the last five years, the National Bowl is a post-season all-star game that showcases top senior college players from around the country who do not attend a FBS school. This opportunity is provided to players who have been named All-American or All-Conference at their school. These players get to show their skills and talents in front of NFL and CFL scouts. The bowl was played on December 10.

This past season, Jones set the school record for receiving yards in a season with 875 yards on 49 receptions. The old mark was 805 yards set by current Minnesota Vikings wide receivers coach Darrell Hazell in 1983. Jones gathered 974 all-purpose yards (35 rushing, 875 receiving, and 64 punt return yards) and logged seven receiving touchdown passes, all of which ranked first on the team. He finished the season ranked fourth in the conference in receiving yards-per-game (87.5), 11th in touchdowns, and was named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference Second Team. Throughout his career, he saw action in 39 games, registered 14 receiving touchdowns and had 1,818 receiving yards which ranks fourth all-time.

The D3 Senior Classic, scheduled for December 16, is an event where players from around the country get to participate in a North vs. South All-Star format for an exclusive chance to show their skills in front of NFL prospects. Kickoff is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. at Doug Shaw Field and fans can watch the action live at D3Classic.com.
