2nd-ranked Mount Union powers past Muskingum

The 2nd-ranked Mount Union football team powered past Muskingum on Saturday afternoon in Alliance, 59-7.

How It Happened

Mount Union led 24-7 at halftime and used a 35-point third-quarter outburst to cap off the home win to claim the Ohio Athletic Conference title outright and the automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs. The Purple Raiders gained 458 yards of offense and racked up 17 first downs.

Muskingum mustered 137 yards of offense and seven first downs. Muskingum's scoring drive was set-up by senior linebacker Mick Fishel's interception in the second quarter. The interception was the first of the season by Mount Union quarterback D'Angelo Fulford. The Muskies used the turnover to orchestrate a 10-play, 43-yard drive that culminated in freshman quarterback Brody Hahn hitting junior receiver Jesse Mann for a 10-yard touchdown pass. The score was the first of Mann's career. 

Muskingum's defense was paced by freshman linebacker Brady Carpenter who had a career-high 12 tackles and recovered one fumble. Junior defensive back Cle'Von Burch registered a career-best 11 stops, while freshman linebacker Drew Lowery recorded 10 hits. Fishel, senior defensive lineman Chris Weck and junior linebacker Brandon Schon all notched eight tackles. Weck and Schon also had one sack.

Fulford led Mount Union going 15-of-20 for 211 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. Jawanza Evans-Morris rushed for 71 yards and two scores on seven totes. Danny Robinson led the Purple Raider defense with six tackles.
