Muskingum stumbles at Baldwin Wallace in OAC action

The Muskingum University football team stumbled in Ohio Athletic Conference play at Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday afternoon, 23-13.

With the loss, Muskingum stands at 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the OAC. The Muskies next travel to Wilmington College on Saturday, October 5. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on WMCO 90.7 FM and simulcast on the Muskie Sports Network. The Muskies will enter the contest with 499 program wins, one shy of the 500-win milestone.

Baldwin Wallace scored 20 unanswered points to open the game en route to taking control of the contest.

The Yellow Jackets used a seven-play, 58-yard drive early in the first quarter that ended with Michael Slack's 17-yard touchdown run to take a 7-0 lead.

BW connected on two field goals (38, 36) by Chris Mohler in the second quarter to give the Yellow Jackets a 13-0 lead at the half.

BW's Kyle Ohradzansky scored on a 21-yard touchdown run to extend the Yellow Jacket lead to 20-0 early in the second half.

Muskingum junior linebacker Zach Barry got the Muskies on the scoreboard in the waning seconds of the third quarter with a 17-yard interception return for a touchdown.

In the final frame, BW's Mohler added his third field goal (37) of the game to complete the Yellow Jacket scoring. Muskingum's final score came with 24 seconds left when sophomore quarterback C.J. Snider hit senior wide out James Washington for a 21-yard score.

Snider ended the game going 15-of-33 with one interception and one touchdown for 164 yards. Sophomore wide receiver Cody Williams led the receiver core with seven grabs for 66 yards. Senior tight end Wes Rataiczak had three catches for 44 yards and Washington ended the day with two receptions for 37 yards and one score. Senior running back Shane Dotson led the ground attack with 14 totes for 35 yards. Muskingum ended the game with 241 yards of offense and 14 first downs.

Sophomore linebacker Steven Vinson Jr. led the squad with 12 tackles, including two tackles for loss and one sack. Junior linebacker Damond Goggins had 11 stops and one tackle for loss, while senior defensive back Darell Jones and Barry each had 10 tackles. Jones also added four pass break-ups and Barry had one sack and the interception return for a touchdown.

The Yellow Jackets ended the game with 278 yards and 15 first downs. BW grinded out 194 yards rushing and was paced by Nolan Sordyl who had 20 carries for 99 yards. Kevin Johnson led the receivers with three grabs for 44 yards.

The BW defense was led by David Flegal who had 11 tackles.
