Baseball travels to Marietta for a doubleheader against the Pioneers

The Muskingum baseball team traveled to Marietta on Thursday evening to face the Pioneers in an OAC doubleheader. The Muskies dropped both games as they came up short in a 4-1 game one, and slipped late in a 9-6 game two.

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (15-14 overall, 6-6 OAC), Marietta (15-14 overall, 7-5 OAC)
  • Location: Pioneer Park - Marietta, Ohio

Game 1

  • The Muskies tallied one run on four hits with zero errors.
  • Leading the way in game one was junior Tobie Teke with one hit and one RBI. 
  • Sophomore Sam Palmieri tallied a hit and scored a run for the Muskies.
  • Junior Weston Melick added in a hit and a walk in the contest.
  • Freshman Grant Mellerson rounded out the Muskie bats with a hit. 
  • Palmieri logged the only extra base hit for the Muskies, which was a double in the first at bat of the game for the Muskies.
  • Sophomore Jake Roshau got the start on the mound and went seven innings while only giving up four runs to the Pioneers. 
  • Freshman Caleb Linton came in for relief and pitched one inning without giving up a hit.
  • Marietta was led by Alex Richter with one home run in the contest and two RBI's. 
  • Forrest Havanis earned the win as the pitcher for Marietta following three innings of relief work where he only gave up one hit.

Game 2

  • Muskingum scored six runs on twelve hits with three errors.
  • The Muskies were led by Palmieri who tallied three hits, two RBI's, and three runs scored. Palmieri added to his impressive performance at the plate in game two by also drawing two walks.
  • Melick tallied two hits and two RBI's to help fuel the Muskie offense.
  • Mellerson added in two hits of his own in the contest.
  • Senior Ryan Schwartz fired off two hits and one RBI. 
  • Freshman Conner Thamann finished with one hit and a scored run.
  • Freshman Aiden Reis recorded one hit and one RBI to round out the Muskie bats.
  • Thamann and Reis both had doubles as extra base hits in game two.
  • Palmieri recorded a home run in the top of the sixth inning to bring in two runs. 
  • Palmieri and Teke both stole a base.
  • Sophomore Max Vosters started for the Muskies on the mound. 
  • Freshman Luke Spencer and sophomore Nathan Johnson came in for relief. 
  • The Pioneers were led by Cael Magill who notched three hits.

Up Next

  • The Muskies are back in action on Saturday, April 20, when they will host Heidelberg for their Senior Day. The doubleheader is set to start at 1:00 p.m. with the senior day celebration happening before the first game.
