Baseball slips in final day at Gene Cusic Classic

Saturday, March 9 - The Muskingum baseball team wrapped up its play at the Gene Cusic Classic in Flordia on Saturday with a pair of losses against St. John's (6-3) and Franklin & Marshall (15-4).

Muskingum scored three runs on three hits against St. John's. Senior Ryan Schwartz and freshman Grant Mellerson led the Muskies with an RBI each. Senior Erik Cover started the game and went 5.1 innings and allowed two unearned runs on four hits with eight strikeouts. Joe Becker led St. John's with four RBIs which included a three-run home run.

Against Franklin & Marshall, Muskingum scored four runs on five hits. Freshman Conner Thamann and senior Gavin Hawk each notched an RBI.

Drew Butera led Franklin & Marshall with six RBIs which included a grand slam home run and two-run shot.

Muskingum next plays at Oberlin on Tuesday, March 12. The game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

Friday, March 8 - The Muskingum baseball team slipped against Augustana at the Gene Cusic Classic in Florida on Friday, 8-3.

Muskingum scored three runs on five hits. Sophomore Sam Palmieri, sophomore Jackson Duchesne, and freshman Grant Mellerson led the Muskies with an RBI each. Senior Wyatt Reeder registered three stolen bases.

Freshman Gavin Schultz started the game and went three innings, and allowed two runs on four hits. He also registered four strikeouts. 

Ethan Sosnowski led Augustana with three RBIs, which included hitting a two-run home run. Cameron Miller earned the win after pitching 3.2 innings of relief and allowing one run on one hit.

Thursday, March 7 - On Thursday, the Muskingum baseball team fell against Alvernia at the Gene Cusic Classic in Florida, 8-7.

Freshman Conner Thamann led the Muskies, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and one run scored. Sophomore Sam Palmieri went 2-for-5 with a double and one run scored. Sophomore Jackson Duchesne recorded a pair of stolen bases, one RBI, and one run scored. Sophomore Max Vosters started the game and tossed five innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts. 

Mike Ramundo led Alvernia with two doubles and one RBI, while Jason Lind added two RBIs. In the top of the eighth, Alvernia scored two runs on three hits to take an 8-7 lead.

Wednesday, March 6 - The Muskingum baseball team (4-2) dropped their first game in Florida at the Gene Cusic Classic against Rockford in seven innings, 14-4.

The Muskies scored four runs on 10 hits and had three errors. Sophomore Sam Palmieri had two hits and one RBI. Junior Weston Melick had two hits, including a double with one RBI. Sophomore Jackson Duchesne added two hits, including a double with a walk. Senior Wyatt Reeder also registered a pair of hits. Blaise Mace led Rockford with three hits and four RBIs.
