Melick, Teke, Palmieri named All-OAC baseball selections

The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced that sophomore Weston Melick, sophomore Tobie Teke, and freshman Sam Palmieri have been named All-OAC baseball selections for their standout efforts during the 2023 season.

Melick, a second team selection at first base, concludes his sophomore campaign in record-breaking fashion. Melick set a new program record for doubles in a season with 23, and he also ranked fourth in the OAC with 45 RBI. Melick finished the year with a scorching hot .395 batting average, and he tallied a team-best 64 hits on the season. Melick finished with a .463 on-base percentage, and and he also tallied a career-high .586 slugging percentage as well. Melick registered two home runs this year for the Muskies, and also boasted a .984 fielding percentage in 40 games as well.

Teke, a second team selection in the outfield, burst on the scene after belting a two-run walkoff homer in Muskingum's 17-15 win over Pitt.-Bradford during the team's spring break trip to Florida. Teke appeared in 37 games for the Muskies this season and finished with a batting average of .376. Teke also tallied career-highs in hits (50), runs scored (34), RBI (28), doubles (10), triples (3), and slugging percentage (.519). Teke finished with a .973 fielding percentage on the year, and he'll also tallied 21 stolen bases which ranks sixth in program history for a single season.

Palmieri, an honorable mention selection, batted in the lead off spot for Muskingum all season. In his freshman campaign, Palmieri finished with a batting average of .335 and also put together a 19-game hitting streak down the stretch of the season. Palmieri recorded 52 hits, 41 runs scored, 27 RBI, eight stolen bases, and five doubles for the Muskies; while also finishing with a .898 fielding percentage at the hot corner.

This season, Muskingum finished with a record of 22-18, the first time the program achieved 20 wins since 2010.
