Baseball beats Penn St.-Behrend to cap off 22-win season

The Muskingum baseball team beat Penn St.-Behrend in its season finale on Sunday afternoon, 7-4. The win capped off a 22-win season for the Muskies.

  • Muskingum's 22 wins are the most since the 2010 season when the Muskies won 23 games.
  • Muskingum senior Dominic Gorence went 2-for-3 to end his Muskie tenure with 100 career hits, which are tied for 63rd all-time at Muskingum.
  • Senior Clark Jennings made his 19th appearance of the season on the mound, which is tied for third all-time for a season. He also is tied for 11th all-time with 45 career appearances.
  • Sophomore Weston Melick ended the year with 23 doubles to set the single-season record. He also ranks sixth in hits with 64 and 11th in RBIs with 45.
  • Sophomore Tobie Teke swiped three bases to end the year with 21 stolen bases which are tied for sixth for a season.
  • Junior catcher Ryan Schwartz ended the year with 15 doubles which are tied for sixth for a season.
  • Junior Wyatt Reeder notched 32 stolen bases during the year, which ranks second all-time for a season.
  • Senior Joey Bystricky made his first career appearance in a game and retired the lone batter.

The Game

  • Muskingum scored seven runs on five hits.
  • Freshman Sheadon Sullivan earned the win after firing five relief innings of five-hit ball and zero runs with two strikeouts. He moved to 2-0 on the year.
  • Freshman Jackson Duchesne pitched the final two frames and allowed one run on two hits.
  • Senior Jake Hymrod led the team with three RBIs.
  • Reeder added two RBIs to help pace the Muskies.
  • Gorence went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
  • Teke scored a pair of runs and had three stolen bases.
