Baseball falls in OAC doubleheader against Otterbein

The Muskingum baseball team fell in a home OAC doubleheader against Otterbein on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (20-17 Overall, 5-11 OAC), Otterbein (24-11 Overall, 9-7 OAC)

Game One

The Difference

  • Muskingum drew first blood in the first inning when freshman Sam Palmieri scored on a throwing error by Otterbein.
  • Muskingum scored again in the second inning when Palmieri ripped an RBI single into left field scoring freshman Louie Hess.
  • In the third, sophomore Weston Melick blasted a solo home run to left field for Muskingum's third run of the game. Melick solo shot was his second home run of the year.
  • In the fourth, senior Allex Santacroce launched a solo shot to left field for the Muskies. The fourth inning bomb was Santacroce's first homer of the season.
  • Later in the contest, Muskingum scored two runs in the seventh inning including an RBI single to left field by Melick, and an RBI groundout to second base by junior Wyatt Reeder.

  • Muskingum was led by sophomore Weston Melick who finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored.
  • Freshman Sam Palmieri tallied a 2-for-3 line with an RBI and a run scored, while senior Allex Santacroce went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Sophomore Tobie Teke recorded a 1-for-5 line with an RBI and a run scored, while freshman Louie Hess tallied one hit and one run scored.
  • Juniors Ryan Schwartz and Gavin Hawk both tallied one hit apiece, while junior Wyatt Reeder notched an RBI for Muskingum.
  • Freshman Jake Roshau started on the bump for Muskingum. Roshau tossed six and one-third innings and gave up eight earned runs.
  • Senior Clark Jennings threw two and two-thirds innings in relief for Muskingum and gave up four earned runs.
  • Otterbein was led by Brayden Quincel who finished 5-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored.

 

Game Two

The Difference

  • Muskingum started hot, plating two runs in the first inning to grab the early lead. In the inning, sophomore Weston Melick tallied an RBI off a sacrifice fly to right field. Later in the inning, junior Gavin Hawk ripped an RBI ground out to second base to score sophomore Tobie Teke.
  • Muskingum scored again in the second inning when senior Allex Santacroce singled up the middle to score senior Dominic Gorence.
  • In the sixth inning, Muskingum scored their final run of the contest when freshman Sam Palmieri blasted a single up the middle to score sophomore Travis Reynolds.

Inside the Numbers

  • Muskingum was led by freshman Sam Palmieri who finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Sophomore Travis Reynolds finished 1-for-2 with a run scored, while senior Allex Santacroce went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Senior Dominic Gorence tallied one hit and one run scored, while juniors Ryan Schwartz and Wyatt Reeder both finished with one hit.
  • Junior Gavin Hawk and sophomore Weston Melick both finished with one RBI each for Muskingum. Melick now has 42 RBI on the season which ranks third in the OAC.
  • Freshman Blake Jodrey started on the mound for the Muskies. Jodrey tossed six and one-third innings and gave up five earned runs.
  • Freshman Max Vosters pitched one and one-third innings in relief and gave up one earned run, while freshman Nathan Johnson tossed one and one-third scoreless innings for Muskingum.
  • Otterbein was led by Zach Franz who finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
