Baseball drops home contest against Kenyon

The Muskingum baseball team dropped their non-conference matchup with Kenyon 9-6 on Tuesday afternoon. 

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (18-15 Overall), Kenyon (17-12 Overall)
  • Location: Mose Morehead Field
  • Attendance: 79

The Difference

  • The Muskies tallied their first run of the game in the second inning off an RBI single from senior Dominic Gorence. Junior Gavin Hawk scored on the play for Muskingum.
  • In the sixth inning, Muskingum found the scoreboard again via an RBI double to right field from junior Wyatt Reeder.
  • Later in the inning, Reeder would cross home plate off a balk from Kenyon's pitcher to plate the muskies third run of the contest.
  • Muskingum continued their momentum into the seventh inning when sophomore Weston Melick tallied an RBI double down the right field line to score sophomore Tobie Teke.
  • In the eighth inning, Muskingum tallied two more runs to trim the Owl's lead down to three. Sam Palmieri ripped an RBI infield single to plate the Muskies first run, while Teke hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Gorence for Muskingum's final run of the game. 

Inside the Numbers

  • Muskingum was led by junior Wyatt Reeder who finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Sophomore Weston Melick tallied a 2-for-5 line with an RBI, while senior Dominic Gorence and sophomore Tobie Teke each finished 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Freshman Sam Palmieri tallied one hit and an RBI for Muskingum, while juniors Gavin Hawk and Ryan Schwartz both notched one hit and one run scored.
  • Freshman Lane Goetz got the start on the mound for Muskingum. Goetz tossed four innings and gave up four earned runs.
  • Sophomore Christopher Brison pitched four and two-thirds innings in relief for Muskingum. Brison only allowed one hit on the day and struck out three Kenyon batters.
  • Kenyon was led by Niko Price who finished 1-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored.

  • Muskingum will be back in action on Thursday, April 27, when they travel to take on Hiram in a non-conference doubleheader. Game on is set for 2:00 p.m.
