Offense powers baseball past Kenyon

The Muskingum baseball team used 19 runs on 17 hits to power past Kenyon on Sunday afternoon.

The Difference

  • Muskingum scored their first run of the game in the first inning when junior Ryan Schwartz belted a two-run homer to right center field. Schwartz now has two home runs on the year.
  • Muskingum's bats came alive in the fourth inning, tallying nine runs in the frame to open up an 11-1 lead.
  • The inning was highlighted by a two RBI double from junior Wyatt Reeder, an RBI single from sophomore Tobie Teke, and an RBI bunt single from sophomore Travis Reynolds.
  • Muskingum tallied two more runs in the fifth inning when freshman Sam Palmieri blasted a two-run shot to right field to put Muskingum up 13-7.
  • In the sixth, senior Dominic Gorence doubled to center field to score Reeder and extend the Muskie lead to 14-7.
  • Muskingum kept the bats rolling in the seventh inning, scoring two more runs including sacrifice fly from Reeder and an RBI single from Schwartz.
  • In the eighth inning, Palmieri tallied an RBI single to center field which scored junior Quinten Collins, and the Muskingum scored their final run in the ninth inning when Gorence singled town the left field line to tally two more RBI.

Inside the Numbers

  • Muskingum was led by freshman Sam Palmieri who finished 3-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored.
  • Junior Wyatt Reeder went 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored, while junior Ryan Schwartz finished 2-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBI.
  • Sophomore Tobie Teke continued his hot play with a 2-for-5 effort including two runs scored and an RBI, while sophomore Weston Melick finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Melick now has 36 RBI on the year to lead the Muskies.
  • Senior Dominic Gorence finished 2-for-5 with three RBI, while junior Quinten Collins notched a 2-for-4 line with three runs scored and an RBI.
  • Sophomore Travis Reynolds finished with one hit, one RBI, and one run scored; while freshman Mike Davis also scored a run for the Muskies.
  • On the mound, freshman Jackson Duchesne got the start for Muskingum. Duchesne tossed three and one-third innings and gave up three earned runs.
  • Senior Clark Jennings had a lights out performance out of Muskingum's bullpen, tossing three innings and only giving up one hit.
  • Sophomore Brock Pfister earned the win in today's contest after throwing one and two-thirds scoreless innings. The win is Pfister's first of the season.
  • Kenyon was led by Ben Nash who finished 1-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored.
