Baseball battles #17 Marietta in OAC action

The Muskingum baseball team hosted #17 Marietta for an OAC doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. 

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (16-13 Overall, 4-8 OAC), Marietta (24-8 Overall, 9-3 OAC)
  • Location: Mose Morehead Field – New Concord, Ohio
  • Attendance: 176

Game One

The Difference

  • Muskingum tallied the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning off an RBI from junior Gavin Hawk. Freshman Sam Palmieri scored on the play.
  • After Marietta scored three runs in the third, Muskingum answered back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Sophomore Tobie Teke ripped a double to right field and Palmieri crossed home plate via a throwing error by Marietta's second baseman.
  • Muskingum tallied two more runs in the sixth inning when junior Ryan Schwartz tallied an RBI single to score Teke. Later in the inning Hawk would score for the Muskies off a Marietta throwing error.
  • The Pioneers would eventually build their lead to 9-4 in the eighth, but Muskingum tallied six runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 10-9 lead heading into the ninth inning.
  • Despite Muskingum holding the momentum, Marietta managed to plate two runs in the ninth to take an 11-10 lead and secure the win.

Inside the Numbers

  • Muskingum was led by sophomore Weston Melick who finished 2-for-5 with an RBI.
  • Sophomore Tobie Teke went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, while freshman Sam Palmieri went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Junior Gavin Hawk tallied a line of 1-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while senior Dominic Gorence finished 1-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Freshman Jackson Duchesne tallied a pinch hit RBI and scored a run for Muskingum, while junior Ryan Schwartz went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Freshman Blake Jodrey started on the mound for Muskingum. Jodrey tossed five innings and gave up four earned runs.
  • Marietta was led by Ty Davis who finished 3-for-6 with three RBI and a run scored.

 

Game Two

The Difference

  • Muskingum tallied their first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning off an RBI groundout from sophomore Austin Lippolis. Freshman Sam Palmieri scored on the play.
  • Muskingum scored their final run of the game in the second inning when junior Wyatt Reeder crossed home plate off a wild pitch.

Inside the Numbers

  • Muskingum was led by freshman Sam Palmieri who finished 1-for-3 with a run scored.
  • Sophomore Austin Lippolis went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Muskingum, while junior Wyatt Reeder tallied one run scored.
  • Freshman Max Vosters started on the mound for Muskingum. Vosters tossed two innings and gave up six earned runs.
  • Marietta was led by Ty Davis who finished 4-for-6 with two RBI and a run scored.

  • Muskingum will be back in action on Saturday, April 22, when they battle OAC-foe Heidelberg. Game one of the doubleheader is set for 1:00 p.m. from Tiffin, Ohio.
