Muskies split OAC twinbill vs. Capital

The Muskingum baseball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference twinbill against Capital on Friday afternoon at Mose Morehead Field. Muskingum won the opener 9-6 and Capital took the nightcap, 9-4.

Game 1

  • Sophomore Vayden Wood led the Muskies at the plate going 5-for-5 with five RBIs and a double. 
  • Senior Christian Leitenberger belted a two-run home run. The blast was his third of the season. 
  • Junior Matt Lynn went 4-for-5 with five runs scored. He also had two stolen bases.
  • Junior Joe Shumar added two RBIs.
  • Muskingum scored nine runs on 14 hits and turned two double plays.
  • Freshman Patrick McGinty improved to 3-1 after going eight innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits.
  • Justin Ennis led the Crusaders with a grand slam in the ninth.
  • Tyler Gibbons and Alexander Smith each had an RBI for Capital.
  • Jacon Sheaf took the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits in 5.2 innings of work.
  • Capital scored a run in the top of the first and the Muskies responded by scoring nine unanswered runs. Muskingum scored one in the first, one in the third, two in the fifth and sixth and three in the eighth. Capital ended the outing by scoring five in the top of the ninth.

Game 2

  • Muskingum saw a 3-1 lead after two innings evaporate when Capital plated four runs in the third inning to take a 5-3 lead.
  • The Muskies scored one run in the bottom of the third but that was as close as Muskingum would get as Capital scored the final runs of the outing.
  • Lynn led the Muskies with two RBIs.
  • Wood also addded an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
  • Junior Dallas Allen ended the game with a pair of doubles.
  • Muskingum scored three runs on six hits.
  • Kyle Gannon (1-2) went 6.1 innings and allowed seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits.
  • Logan Bastin hit a two-run home run and Ennis added a solo home run to lead Capital.
  • Daniel Walters had three RBIs for the Crusaders.
  • Alex Mukensturm (2-0) notched the win after tossing 5.2 innings and allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits.
