25th-ranked ONU sweeps Muskingum

The 25th-ranked Ohio Northern Polar Bears swept Muskingum on Saturday in Ada. ONU won the opener 8-4 and took the nightcap, 11-4.

In game one, Muskingum had a 4-0 lead evaporate when the Polar Bears used a four-run fourth and four-run eighth to seal the comeback win.

Sophomore Derrick Barker (1-1) started and fired 7.1 innings and allowed eight runs (five earned) on eight hits.

Junior Christian Leitenberger and sophomore Austin DeVore each had two RBIs for the Muskies. Sophomore Joe Shumar had a pair of hits. Muskingum ended the game with 10 hits.

T.J. Storer (2-0) got the win in relief after tossing the final two innings and allowing just one hit. Devin Carr started and went seven innings and allowed four runs on nine hits.

Jordan Bostater led the Polar Bears with three RBIs, while Nick Elzroth had two RBIs. ONU had 10 hits in the contest.

In game two, Ohio Northern (19-4, 6-2) scattered 13 hits en route to scoring 11 runs. ONU grabbed the early momentum with a three-run first. 

Muskingum trimmed its deficit to 3-2 after plating a pair of runs in the second, but ONU answered with a two-run third and three-run fourth to take a 7-3 lead.

Devore led the Muskies at the plate with two doubles and one RBI. Shumar, sophomore Adam Madias and Leitenberger all logged one RBI.

Sophomore Dallas Allen (2-3) was saddled with the loss after starting and lasting three innings and allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits.

Zach Foster (1-0) earned the win with one scoreless inning of relief. John Kopicky started and went four innings and allowed four runs on five hits.

Bostater had four RBIs and Dan Belliveau had two RBIs to help pace the Polar Bears. Jack LaMarca added a solo home run.

Muskingum (8-17, 2-6) next plays at Wilmington on Monday, April 13. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
