Baseball hits past Wooster

The Muskingum baseball bats stayed hot racking up 14 hits en route to an 8-5 win against Wooster at Mose Morehead Field on Monday.

Wooster (19-11) entered the game with a senior-laden roster and in first place in the North Coast Athletic Conference's East Division. However, it was the well balanced Muskie attack that proved the difference in the contest.

Muskingum (12-16) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings and used a clutch three-run eighth to seal the win.

The Muskies scored one in the first on two hits and two errors and added another run in the second on two hits. In the third inning, the Muskies scored three runs on four hits. Muskingum scored three runs on four hits in the eighth to complete its scoring.

Senior Michael Lynn went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and one run and freshman Jesse Swope went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and one run. Senior Will Simpson went 2-for-4 with two runs aand freshman Joe Shumar went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. Rounding out the balanced effort was senior Matt Connor scoring two runs and freshman Logan Roberts adding a 3-for-5 performance with one RBI.

Sophomore Austin Miller started the outing and went five innings and allowed three runs on five hits to pick up his fourth win of the season. Senior Alex VanDine nailed down his first save of the year after tossing the final four frames and allowing two runs on three hits.

Tyler Schuch took the loss after going three innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits.

Eddie Reese led the Scots with a pair of RBIs and Jarrod Mancine hit a solo home run. Wooster ended the outing with eight hits.

Muskingum hits the field next at Wittenberg on Wednesday, April 23. Game time is slated for 6:00 p.m. and will mark the Muskies' first night game of the season.
