Baseball stumbles against Bethany

The Muskingum baseball team lost a doubleheader against Bethany on a cold Thursday afternoon at Mose Morehead Field. The Bison took the opener 4-0 and the nightcap, 6-4.

The Muskies mustered just eight hits in 14 innings of play. In the opener, Ryan Meier kept Muskingum off balance by firing a complete game three-hitter with three strikeouts. Freshman Logan Roberts and senior Michael Lynn each had a base hit, while senior Will Simpson belted a double.

Muskingum starter Bryce Curry took the loss to slip to 1-3 on the season. He allowed two runs on five hits in four innings of work.

The Bison (6-5) scored two runs in the fourth and added a run each in the fifth and sixth innings. Bethany ended the outing with four runs on 12 hits. Dylan Wessel led the squad going 4-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI and one run. Jordan Ault also added a pair of RBIs.

In the nightcap, Zak Kozlowski limited the Muskies to three runs on four hits in six innings of work to move to 3-0 on the year. 

Bethany scored two in the third, three in the fifth and one in the seventh. Juls Leto led the Bison going 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI, while Zac Edmiston and Luke Flaus each had two RBIs.

The Muskies entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 6-1. Muskingum made some noise by scoring three runs on two hits and had the game-tying run at the plate when the contest ended. 

Roberts led the team going 2-for-4 with one RBI. Simpson added a 2-for-3 performance with two runs and one double. Freshman Dallas Allen and senior Zach Siemon each logged an RBI.

Freshman Derrick Barker (1-2) was tagged with the loss after throwing two relief innings and allowing two runs on two hits.

Muskingum (6-9, 1-1) hits the field next at Ohio Athletic Conference foe Heidelberg on Saturday, March 29. Game one of the scheduled twinbill is slated for 1:00 p.m.
