Women's Basketball delivers big OAC home win against Wilmington

The Muskingum women's basketball team delivered a big Ohio Athletic Conference home win in front of a raucous crowd in the Steele Center against Wilmington on Wednesday night, 59-46.

Notables

  • Muskingum has now won four of its last five games. 
  • The Muskies have beaten five different OAC teams (Wilmington, Otterbein, Mount Union, Heidelberg, Capital) this season.
  • The Muskies are in the hunt for an OAC Tournament bid that is reserved for the top six teams at the end of the regular season. Muskingum is one game back of sixth place, which Capital and Wilmington currently hold.
  • The contest was a Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Muskie Pride Game. All Muskie fans were encouraged to wear white.

Inside the Numbers

  • A trio of double-digit scorers led Muskingum. Sophomore Caitlyn DeMassimo recorded a double-double with a game-high 17 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore Taylor DeMassimo and freshman Tori Jones each added 12 points. Taylor DeMassimo dished out a game-high four assists, and Jones grabbed six rebounds.
  • Sophomore Halle Morehead scored eight points to help pace the Muskie effort, and freshman Claudia Harrington helped control the glass with 10 rebounds. 
  • Muskingum ended the outing with a 44-34 advantage in rebounds, which helped propel the Muskies to a 15-6 edge in second-chance points.
  • Jada Pohlen led Wilmington with 16 points and five rebounds.
  • Kyria Walker added 11 points for the Quakers.
  • Muskingum used a 16-7 surge to end the first quarter to take a 16-12 lead.
  • The Muskies continued their strong play in the second quarter by outscoring the Quakers 23-15 to enter the break with a 39-27 lead.
