Women’s Basketball catches fire, shoots past Purple Raiders

Behind hot shooting from the floor, the Muskingum women's basketball team never trailed in the contest en route to a 66-58 OAC road win against Mount Union Wednesday evening.

  • The win marks the first time since the 2016-17 season that Muskingum has defeated the Purple Raiders.
  • Sophomore Caitlyn DeMassimo notched a career-high 23 points and 14 rebounds to propel the Muskingum charge.

Inside the Numbers

  • As a team, Muskingum finished 24-of-49 (49.0%) from the field and 9-of-24 (37.5%) from beyond the arc.
  • Caitlyn DeMassimo finished 9-of-14 (64.3%) from the field and 2-of-4 (50.0%) from beyond the arc. She also added three assists, three steals, and one block on her career night.
  • Freshman Claudia Harrington finished with 11 points and dished out a team-high five assists.
  • Sophomore Halle Morehead also ended the contest with 11 points, while freshman Tori Jones finished with seven points, three rebounds, and two assists.
  • Freshman Lizzy Allen and junior Taylor DeMassimo each ended the night with five points apiece. DeMassimo also grabbed six boards, while Allen grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists.
  • Gretchen Koken led the Purple Raider offense with 15 points and six rebounds.
  • Mount Union finished shooting 21-of-67 (31.3%) from the floor and 8-of-27 (29.6) from three-point range.
  • Muskingum outrebounded Mount Union 37-32, and the Muskies held a 28-26 advantage in points in the paint.
  • Muskingum forced 10 Purple Raider turnovers on the night and converted them into 16 points.
