STUNT opens the season at Davenport Invitational

The Muskingum University STUNT program opened its season in Davenport, Michigan on Saturday versus Central Michigan and Michigan State.

 The Basics – Game One

Records: Muskingum (0-1), Michigan State (1-0)

Location: Davenport Student Center – Grand Rapids, Mich.

In the opening quarter, Michigan State jumped ahead 4-0 in partner stunts. The second quarter saw Michigan State extend their lead 8-1 in pyramids and tosses. The Spartans used a three-point third quarter and a 10-point fourth quarter to capture a 21-1 victory. 

The Basics – Game Two

Records: Muskingum (0-2), Central Michigan (1-1)

Location: Davenport Student Center – Grand Rapids, Mich.

In the opening quarter, Central Michigan jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in partner stunts. The second quarter saw Central Michigan stretch out to a four-point lead in pyramids and tosses. The Chippewas added three more points in jumps and tumbling taking a 7-0 lead heading into the final period. Central Michigan used a 5-1 urge in the final quarter to secure a 12-1 victory.

In the sport of STUNT, individual games are broken down into four quarters, with each quarter focusing on a different discipline: Quarter 1 – Partner Stunts; Quarter 2- Pyramids and Tosses; Quarter 3 – Jumps and Tumbling; Quarter 4 – Team Routine.

Once a routine is selected in a quarter (all teams learn and perform the same routines that are provided by USA Cheer), the two sides perform the routine at the same time. Judges then determine which sides should be awarded the point. The team with the most points at the end of four quarters is declared the winner.

Up Next 

Muskingum will next compete on Sunday, February 26, when they host Olivet and Hiram College in the Steele Center. The event is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
