Sixth-ranked Otterbein uses second-half surge to push past Muskies

The Muskingum men's soccer team slipped in a road OAC match versus sixth-ranked Otterbein on Saturday night, 6-3.

The Basics

How it Happened
• Muskingum sophomore Mahfuz Yakubu scored the game's first goal in the 28th minute to give the Muskies a 1-0 lead.
• Otterbein was able to answer in the 40th minute with a goal by Drew Holman to tie the score at one apiece. Assisting Holman was Will Isaac.
• Immediately following the Cardinal goal, Muskingum answered with a score from senior Blake Weatherholt in the 41st minute. Assisting Wetherholt was junior Edwin Palou.
• Weatherholt's goal would conclude scoring in the first half, as Muskingum carried a 2-1 lead into the break.
• Muskingum struck again to open the second half with another goal by Mahfuz Yakubu in the 49th minute. Yakubu's second goal of the night pushed the Muskingum lead to 3-1.
• Otterbein answered back in the 54th minute with a goal from Gabe Sharrock off and an assist from Will Isaac to cut the Muskie lead to 3-2.
• The Cardinals tied the game in the 55th minute on an unassisted goal by Cody Stover.
• Stover struck again in the 57th minute off assists from Gabe Sharrock and Mark Wischmeyer to give the Cardinals a 4-3 lead.
• Otterbein got on the board again in the 65th minute with a goal by Paul Henseley to make it 5-3 Cardinals.
• Kyle Haberkorn finished off the scoring in the contest with a goal in the 79th minute to give Otterbein a 6-3 lead. Haberkorn's goal was assisted by Ely Carter and Drew Holman.

Inside the Numbers
• Junior Jacob Clevenger tallied seven saves in goal for the Muskies.
• Sophomore Mahfuz Yakubu tallied two goals for Muskingum while senior Blake Weatherholt added one score.
• Junior Edwin Palou dished out one assist for the Muskies.
• Otterbein used a five-goal second half and a three-goal in a three-minute spurt to secure the win over Muskingum.
