Baseball drops doubleheader against Ohio Northern

The Muskingum baseball team fell in a home doubleheader with OAC-foe Ohio Northern on Friday afternoon. 

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (12-8 Overall, 2-4 OAC), Ohio Northern (15-9 Overall, 3-3 OAC)
  • Location: Mose Morehead Field – New Concord, Ohio

Game One

The Difference

  • Muskingum first got on the board in the third inning off an RBI single from junior Gavin Hawk. Hawk's single scored senior Dominic Gorence.
  • Muskingum scored again in the fifth inning when Hawk tallied an RBI groundout to short to one again score Gorence.
  • Freshman Jackson Duchesne scored on a passed ball in the sixth inning for the Muskies, and later that inning Gorence registered an RBI single to score sophomore Travis Reynolds.

Inside the Numbers

  • Muskingum was led by senior Dominic Gorence who finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Junior Gavin Hawk tallied a 1-for-3 line with two RBI, while freshman Jackson Duchesne finished 1-for-2 with a run scored.
  • Freshman Sam Palmieri and sophomore Weston Melick both tallied one hit for the Muskies, while sophomore Travis Reynolds tallied a run scored for Muskingum.
  • Ohio Northern was led by Chase Armstrong who finished 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBI.
  • Freshman Jake Roshau got the start for Muskingum on the mound. Roshau tossed four innings and gave up five earned runs.

 

Game Two

The Difference

  • Junior Gavin Hawk got Muskingum on the board in the first inning with an RBI single that scored freshman Sam Palmieri.
  • Later in the inning, sophomore Tobie Teke laid down a bunt single that scored sophomore Weston Melick.
  • Muskingum tallied another run in the ninth inning when Palmieri hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score junior Brice Shaub.

Inside the Numbers

  • Junior Gavin Hawk finished 3-for-4 in game two with an RBI to lead the Muskies.
  • Senior Allex Santacroce also tallied a 3-for-4 line, while sophomore Tobie Teke went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Freshman Sam Palmieri registered an RBI and a run scored, while sophomore Weston Melick notched a 1-for-3 line with a run scored.
  • Junior Peyton Carr also tallied on hit for Muskingum as well.
  • Ohio Northern was led by Chase Armstrong who finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored in game two.
  • Freshman Jason Murphy got the start on the mound for Muskingum in the second contest. Murphy tossed four and two-thirds innings and gave up four earned runs.

  • Muskingum will be back in action on Monday, April 10, when they travel to take on Ohio Wesleyan. First pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m.
