Baseball slips at Ohio Northern

The Muskingum baseball team dropped a pair of OAC matchups at Ohio Northern on Friday. The Muskies dropped game one 11-10, and slipped in game two, 23-13.

Game 1

How it Happened

  • Game one saw Ohio Northern jump out to a quick 5-0 lead after the first two innings.
  • Muskingum got on the board in the fourth inning off a solo homer from sophomore Tyler Arter. Arter's solo blast was his second home run of the season.
  • Muskingum added four more runs in the fifth inning including RBI singles from junior Dominic Gorence and senior Chayce Lundell to take a 7-5 lead.
  • The Polar Bears proceeded to add one run in the fifth, three in the sixth, and one in the seventh to retake a 10-7 lead.
  • However, the Muskie offense stayed hot in the eighth inning, plating three runs to tie that game at 10 apiece. The Muskies scored their runs off a passed ball, a sacrifice fly from Gorence, and an RBI single from sophomore Quinten Collins.
  • After Ohio Northern scored one run in the eighth inning to take an 11-10 lead, Muskingum had runners at second and third base with one out, but were unable to capitalize and extend the game.

  • The Muskies were led by junior Allex Santacroce who finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Junior Dominic Gorence finished 1-for-3 with two RBI's, while senior Chayce Lundell and sophomore Quinten Collins both finished 1-for-4 with two RBI's each.
  • Sophomore Tyler Arter finished 1-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored for the Muskies.
  • Senior Jake Norris got the start on the mound for the Muskies. Norris pitched six innings, giving up nine earned runs and striking out three batters. Sophomore Clark Jennings pitched in relief for the Muskies. Jenning pitched two innings and gave up two earned runs.

How it Happened

  • The Muskies scored two early runs in the first inning off a sacrifice fly from junior Allex Santacroce, and an RBI from sophomore Peyton Carr.
  • Muskingum got on the board again in the fourth inning when freshman Tobie Teke stole home, and scored again in the fifth inning when junior Devin Ryan scored on a wild pitch.
  • Muskingum's bats came alive in the eighth inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Santacroce. The Muskies also scored off a single from junior Dominic Gorence, a triple from junior Jake Hymrod, a run off a wild pitch, an RBI walk from sophomore Brice Shaub, and an RBI hit by pitch from junior Devin Ryan.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies were led by junior Allex Santacroce who finished 1-for-5 with five RBI's and one run scored.
  • Sophomore Peyton Carr finished with a line of 2-for-5 with one RBI and a run scored, while junior Dominic Gorence went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored as well.
  • Junior Devin Ryan finished 1-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, and sophomore Brice Shaub went 1-for-1 with an RBI pinch hitting for the Muskies.
  • Junior Jake Hymrod also finished with a 1-for-1 line with an RBI while pinch hitting for the Muskies.
  • Sophomore Erik Cover started on the mound for the Muskies in game two. Cover pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up two earned runs.
  • Seniors Drew Eaches, sophomore Liam Carey, and freshman Brock Pfister all pitched in relief for Muskingum.
