Offense powers Muskies past Ohio Wesleyan

The Muskingum baseball team totaled 19 hits to power past Ohio Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon, 16-2.

The Basics

The Difference

  • The Muskies got the offense started early, plating seven runs in the first inning. The inning was highlighted by a three-run home run from sophomore Nate Keiser.
  • Ohio Wesleyan was able to add a run in the top of the second, but the Muskies scored four more in the bottom half of the inning to extend their lead to 11-1.
  • Muskingum got another run in the third inning off an RBI single from sophomore Gavin Hawk.
  • The Muskies scored another in the fifth inning off another RBI single from Hawk.
  • Muskingum would add two more runs in the seventh, and another in the eighth off a solo homer from Tyler Arter to secure their 16-2 lead.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies were led by sophomore Gavin Hawk who finished 4-for-5 with four RBI's and one run scored.
  • Sophomore Tyler Arter also finished 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs scored, and a home run.
  • Junior Devin Ryan batted 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while senior Trey Yoder went 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
  • Senior Chayce Lundell went 1-for-3 with two runs scored, while sophomore Quinten Collins batted 1-for-4 with two runs scored.
  • Sophomore Nate Keiser finished 1-for-4 with a three-run home run, while junior Dominic Gorence went 1-for-5 with three RBI's and one run scored.
  • Sophomore Jaxon Rinkes got the start on the mound for Muskingum. Rinkes pitched five innings, gave up one earned run, and struck out four batters.
  • The Battling Bishops were led by Luigi Russo who went 3-for-5 with two RBI's.
