Baseball falls in extra innings at Franciscan

The Muskingum baseball team fell in extra innings to Franciscan on Tuesday night, 9-8.

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (8-5 Overall), Franciscan (8-3 Overall)
  • Location: Vaccaro Field – Steubenville, Ohio 

The Difference

  • The Muskies jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead after the fourth inning.
  • The Muskies scored three runs in the third inning off an RBI double from junior Devin Ryan, and a two RBI single from senior Chayce Lundell.
  • Muskingum added five more runs in the fourth inning behind a fielder's choice RBI from sophomore Nate Keiser, a fielder's choice RBI from Ryan, an RBI double from senior Trey Yoder, an RBI single from junior Allex Santacroce, and an RBI single from Lundell.
  • Despite the Muskies holding the lead early, Franciscan was able to score three runs in the sixth inning, one run in the seventh inning, and two runs in the ninth inning to tie the game.
  • Franciscan would eventual claim the victory with a walk-off run in the bottom of the tenth.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies were led by senior Chayce Lundell who finished 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a double.
  • Junior Allex Sanatcroce went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI on the night.
  • Senior Devin Ryan finished 1-for-5 and collected two RBIs and two runs scored, while senior Trey Yoder also went 1-for-5 with one run scored and an RBI.
  • On the mound, sophomore Erik Cover got the start for Muskingum. Cover pitched three innings and gave up two earned runs off five hits.
  • Senior Drew Eaches, sophomore Jaxon Rinkes, sophomore Clark Jennings, and sophomore Liam Carey all pitched in relief for the Muskies.
  • The Barons were led by Daniel Halsey who finished 4-for-6 with an RBI on the night.
