Baseball falls to Oberlin in 11 innings

The Muskingum baseball team dropped an extra-innings matchup to Oberlin, 10-9.

The Basics 

  • Records: Muskingum (7-4 Overall), Oberlin (4-3 Overall)
  • Location: Dill Field – Oberlin, Ohio
  • Attendance: 121 

The Difference

  • The Muskies were able to take an early 4-2 lead after the third inning. However, Oberlin would answer with two runs in the fourth to tie the game at four apiece.
  • After leading 6-5 heading into the seventh inning, the Muskies added three more runs to extend their lead to 9-5.
  • Oberlin would have an answer though, scoring three runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to tie the game heading into extras.
  • After holding the Muskies to no runs in the tenth or eleventh, Oberlin was able to score the game-winning run in the bottom of the eleventh to win the game.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies ended the contest with nine runs on 13 hits and one error.
  • Muskingum was led by junior Devin Ryan who finished 2-for-5 with a three-run homerun.
  • Senior Trey Yoder finished 2-for-6 with three RBI, and sophomore Drew Dittoe went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
  • Freshman Austin Lippolis started the game and went 3.2 innings for Muskingum. Lippolis gave up six hits and four earned runs.
  • Oberlin scored 10 runs on 16 hits and one error on the afternoon.
  • The Yeomen were led by David Fineman who finished 2-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored.
  • Justin Kustin earned the win for Oberlin on the mound after pitching two shutout innings in relief.

  • Muskingum will be back in action on Saturday, March 19 when they take on Penn St.-Behrend at 1:00 p.m. Saturday's game will be the Muskies' home-opener.
