Volleyball earns win over Ohio Northern on Senior Day

Behind an electric crowd in the Anne C. Steele Center, the Muskingum volleyball team capped off their Senior Day celebrations with a 3-1 win over OAC-foe Ohio Northern.

The Basics

Notables

  • Prior to the match, Muskingum honored the three senior members of their volleyball program. Emma Conrad, Emma Dunham, and Gracie Collins were all recognized.
  • The match also featured two siblings square off against each other. Muskingum senior Emma Conrad and Ohio Northern sophomore Grace Conrad battled each other for the second time in their collegiate careers. Both Conrad's finished with exactly 45 assists each.

How it Happened

  • In set one, both teams traded points until the score was tied 10-10.
  • From here, Muskingum used a 7-3 run to open up a 17-13 lead. However, Ohio Northern didn't back down, immediately trimming Muskingum's lead down to 18-17.
  • Leading by one, Muskingum closed out the set on a 7-4 run to win the frame 25-21.
  • In set two, Muskingum found themselves in front 10-6 early on.
  • Not looking back, Muskingum extended their lead to 20-11 off a 10-5 run.
  • Despite the Polar Bear's efforts to cut into Muskingum's lead, it wasn't enough as the Muskies cruised to a 25-15 win in set two.
  • In the third set, Ohio Northern quickly took control with a 10-4 run to open the frame.
  • The Polar Bears didn't look back, winning the set 25-14.
  • In the fourth frame, it was Muskingum's turn to answer back. After finding themselves down 5-2 early on, Muskingum worked the score back to a 9-9 tie.
  • Muskingum eventually took an 11-10 lead of their own, and would trail for the remainder of the match, cruising to a 25-21 win.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies were led by senior Emma Conrad who dished out a season-high 45 assists. Conrad also tallied 18 digs and five kills for Muskingum.
  • Junior Khloe Taylor tallied a team-high 14 kills for Muskingum and she also added nine digs as well.
  • Senior Emma Dunham was a presence on the front line, recording 13 kills and three blocks.
  • Junior Lexie Huck notched 11 kills and 16 digs for the Muskies, while junior Raegan Flood added eight kills and seven digs.
  • Senior Gracie Collins finished with a team-high 23 digs, while freshman Emma Johnson turned in six kills for Muskingum.
  • Sophomore Grace Pedersen added seven digs for Muskingum, and freshman Alana Alexander finished with six digs.
  • Ohio Northern was led by Erin Wagner with 18 kills and Grace Conrad with 45 assists.
  • As a team, Muskingum totaled 57 kills, 53 assists, 91 digs, and nine blocks.
