Volleyball drops five set thriller vs. Wis.-Oshkosh

The Muskingum volleyball team dropped a five-set match to non-conference foe Wis.-Oshkosh at the ONU Invitational.

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (7-1 Overall), Wis.-Oshkosh (8-3 Overall)

How it Happened

  • After both teams played to an 11-11 draw to open the first set, Muskingum used a 7-3 run to grab an 18-14 lead.
  • Wis.-Oshkosh managed to slowly trim the Muskie lead down, drawing the score to 23-21 late in the opening frame.
  • Despite the late surge by the Titans, the Muskies held onto their lead and claimed the first set, 25-22.
  • The second set saw both teams play back-and-forth once again, as Oshkosh held a slim 12-10 lead.
  • The Titans then used a quick 6-1 spurt to open up an 18-11 lead.
  • Not backing down, the Muskies came all the way back to tie the score at 24 apiece, and eventually won the set 28-26 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • Despite the Muskies' solid play in the third set, the Titans managed to escape with a 25-22 win and trim the match score to 2-1.
  • Oshkosh managed to even the score at 2-2 after winning the fourth set 25-23, pushing the match to a winner-takes-all fifth set.
  • Despite Muskingum jumping out to a quick 4-1 lead in the final frame, the Titans used a 14-7 run to close out the set and claim the match.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies were led by junior Khloe Taylor who tallied a team-high 15 kills.
  • Senior Emma Dunham and junior Lexie Huck both notched 11 kills, while Dunham also totaled 4 blocks.
  • Senior Emma Conrad dished out a game-high 43 assists to go along with her 16 digs, nine kills, and four blocks.
  • Freshman Quinn Horn led the Muskies in digs with 25 and in service aces with four, while senior Gracie Collins chipped in 21 digs.
  • Freshman Alana Alexander tallied 20 digs for the Muskies, and junior Raegan Flood added six kills.
  • As a team, Muskingum totaled 61 kills, 55 assists, 107 digs, and six service aces.

  • Muskingum will be back in action on Saturday, September 17, when they continue ONU Invitational action. The Muskies will battle Earlham at 12:30 p.m. and Denison at 3:00 p.m. in Ada, Ohio.
