Volleyball honored with 2022 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

The Muskingum volleyball team was recognized for its success in the classroom by being honored with the United States Marine Corps (USMC)/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2021-22 season.

Under the guidance of Head Coach Hallie Cruzen, Muskingum registered a 3.45 GPA as a team. This marks the ninth time that Muskingum has received the award. Muskingum also had seven players named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference Honor Roll.

"The coaching staff finds so much joy from watching this team succeed not only on the court but in the classroom," said Cruzen. "We are so proud of everything our women have accomplished outside the game of volleyball. They are amazing student-athletes but even more amazing individuals. It's a privilege to be around them each and every day."

On the court, Muskingum was ranked as high as 16th in the national poll and registered a 17-win season. The Muskies finished second in the Ohio Athletic Conference and advanced to the OAC Tournament Final.

The USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams (men/women, boys/girls, indoor/ beach) that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.
