Women's Tennis beats Waynesburg for Coach Tharp's first career win

The Muskingum women's tennis team beat Waynesburg in its season-opening match on Tuesday, 7-2. The victory marked the first career win of Head Coach Jessica Tharp.

The Muskies grabbed the early momentum of the contest by winning first and second doubles. The first doubles tandem of junior Gracie Andrews and freshman Sarah Ann Hafner beat Kyleigh Schmidt and Hayley Sweeney, 8-1. The second doubles team of freshman Scarlett Martell and junior Evelyn Pauquette secured an 8-4 triumph against Marina Hastings and Madison Ramsey.

Muskingum continued its strong play through the singles action by claiming wins at first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth singles. 

Hafner won at first singles against Schmidt, 6-3, 6-3, and Andrews beat Ramsey at second singles, 6-4, 6-2. Pauquette won at fourth singles against Hastings 7-5, 6-1, and junior Kaylee Anstaett secured a 6-4, 6-2 win at fifth singles against Amy Liu. Junior Jane Boyer rounded out the Muskie winning effort with a 6-0, 6-1 win at sixth singles against Emily Schafer.

Muskingum next travels to Franciscan on Thursday, September 16. The match time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
