The Muskingum women's tennis team concluded its spring trip in Orlando at the USTA National Tennis Center with a close loss against King's, 5-4.
The Muskie second doubles team of freshman Gracie Andrews and freshman McKinzie Buckmaster beat Mikayla Reynolds and Diana Rodriguez 8-6 to secure Muskingum a point in doubles play.
Buckmaster racked up her second win of the day at fourth singles against Reynolds, 6-4, 0-6, 1-0 (10-8). Junior Kayla Hall aided the Muskie effort with a 6-2, 6-2 win at second singles against Rodriguez. Freshman Evelyn Pauquette registered the final point for the Muskies at third singles against Alexis Zalutko, 6-3, 6-2.
Muskingum next plays at Shawnee St. on Saturday, March 14. Match time is set for 12:00 p.m.
Women's Tennis stumbles in hard-fought battle against St. Vincent
Wednesday, March 4 - The Muskingum women's tennis team battled St. Vincent on Wednesday in Orlando at the USTA National Tennis Center. The Bearcats evaded the Muskies with a 6-3 win.
The Muskie second doubles team of freshman Gracie Andrews and freshman McKinzie Buckmaster secured an 8-3 win against Abby Jo Stull and Lauren Hartner. The win trimmed the Muskie deficit to 2-1 entering singles play.
Buckmaster continued her strong play at fourth singles en route to notching a 7-6, 6-1 win against Maria Hoh. Freshman Kaylee Anstaett rounded out the Muskie victories with a 7-6, 6-3 triumph at sixth singles against Hannah Schilpp.
Freshman Evelyn Pauquette fell in a heartbreaking match against Stull at third singles 6-7, 7-6, 4-10.
Muskingum concludes its spring trip against King's on Thursday at the USTA National Tennis Center. Match time is slated for 8:00 a.m.
Women's Tennis slips in OAC play against John Carroll in Florida
Tuesday, March 3 - The Muskingum women's tennis team slipped against Ohio Athletic Conference foe John Carroll on Tuesday in Orlando at the USTA National Tennis Center, 9-0.
The Blue Streaks claimed the league win after sweeping the doubles and singles competition.
The Muskies next play St. Vincent on Wednesday, March 4, at the USTA National Tennis Center. Match time is slated for 8:00 a.m.
Women's Tennis drops pair of matches on day two in Florida
Monday, March 2 - The Muskingum women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches on Monday in Orlando, Florida. The Muskies fell 6-3 against Midway and 9-0 against Wartburg.
Against Midway, freshman Gracie Andrews led the Muskies with a three-set win at first singles against Erin Byassee 6-2, 4-6, 10-5. The Muskie third doubles tandem of freshman McKinzie Buckmaster and freshman Kaylee Anstaett received a forfeit win, while Anstaett also received a forfeit win at sixth singles.
Junior Emma Lweis slipped in a hard-fought battle against Jillian Verbrugghe in fifth singles 7-5, 2-6, 5-10.
Against Wartburg, the Knights grabbed the early momentum in doubles action and carried the surge en route to the win.
Muskingum next plays Ohio Athletic Conference foe, John Carroll, on Tuesday.
Women's Tennis opens Florida trip with loss vs. ONU
Sunday, March 1 - The Muskingum women's tennis team opened its Florida trip in Orlando with a 9-0 setback against Ohio Northern.
The Polar Bears swept the doubles action and carried the momentum through singles play.
Muskingum next plays Midway at 10:00 a.m. on Monday and Wartburg at 3:30 p.m.
