Women's Tennis drops hard-fought battle to Heidelberg

The Muskingum women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought battle to the Heidelberg Student Princes on Thursday, 5-4.

Heidelberg secured back-to-back doubles action wins to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. The double pair of senior Peyton Morrow and sophomore Mackenzie Simmons answered back with an 8-2 victory in third doubles to trim the deficit to 3-1.

The Student Princes secured the match with victories in first, second, and fourth singles. Freshman Sara Welsh provided a spark for the Muskies with a 6-2, 6-2 win in third singles against Meridith Lucius. Sophomore Emma Lewis locked in fifth singles with a 0-6, 6-4 (10-8) victory over Megan Novess, while Simmons defeated Samantha Escalera 2-6, 6-2 (10-7) in sixth singles.

The Muskies next travel to Mason, Ohio to partcipate in the Lindner Tennis Fest on Saturday, April 13. The Muskies take on the Ohio Northern Polar Bears at 9:00 a.m. in match one and battle the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets at 12:00 p.m. in match two.
