Fast start leads Women's soccer past Bluffton

The Muskingum women's soccer team used a fast start to claim a 4-2 road victory against Bluffton on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics

How it happened 

  • The first minute of the game saw Muskingum jump ahead with sophomore Morgan Meisel scoring the opening goal off an assist from Bekah Knight. The goal marked Meisel's fourth of the season, while Knight collected her first assist of the season.
  • The offensive push continued, three minutes later, off a strike from sophomore Madison Yenke, making it 2-0. The goal marked her second of the year.
  • Freshman Britney Herrick added to the Muskie attack in the 22nd minute extending the lead 3-0. Herrick recorded her third goal of the season.
  • Bluffton found the back of the net at the 22:41 mark making it 3-1.
  • Freshman Marysa Starcher netted Muskingum's fourth and final goal in the 39th minute off an assist from junior Isabelle Cadogan. The goal marked Starcher's first collegiate goal, while Cadogan's assist was her first of the season. The Muskies held a commanding 4-1 lead going into the half.
  • Bluffton scored the final goal of the contest in the 81st minute but it wouldn't be enough as the Muskies secured a 4-2 victory.

  • Muskingum ended the outing with a 25-13 edge in shots and a 5-2 nod in corner kicks.
  • Meisel, Yenke, Herrick, and Starcher led the Muskingum attack with one goal apiece.
  • Knight and Cadogan each chipped in an assist to help pace the Muskie offense.
  • Sophomore Jennafer Roberts tallied five saves in 90 minutes of work between the pipes for the Muskies.
  • Nina McGinn and Katelyn Burden led the Beaver offense with one goal apiece.
