Women's Soccer looks to control the pitch this fall

The Muskingum University women's soccer team, led by veteran head coach Mary Beth Caudill, will look to compete for an upper-tier spot in the Ohio Athletic Conference during the 2019 campaign. Coach Caudill brings back a wealth of talent that features 13 letterwinners, including seven starters, and a top-notch recruiting class that will look to make a statement on the pitch this fall.

Leading the Muskies this season will be sophomore defender Britney Golden, junior forward Mary Double, senior midfielder Abigail Wagner, sophomore forward Natalie Woodward, senior defender Julia Prokopchak, and junior goalie Katie Bodenmiller.

Golden scored five goals and led the team in assists with three while starting all 18 games for the Muskies. Golden was recognized for her play last season by receiving Honorable Mention All-OAC and OAC Player of the Week accolades. Double started all 18 games and netted her five goals and two assists, while Woodward scored a team-high six goals for the Muskies.

Wagner, a returning team captain, helped control the midfield and ended her year with one goal and two assists. Fellow senior midfielder Elena Kozelek, who played in 12 games last season, will look to add experience and leadership to the squad this fall.

Along with Golden and Prokopchak, the backline will feature and be anchored by junior defender Maddie Wirtley, and junior defender Sarah Landis, and junior defender Alyssa Schneider. The trio combined to start in 24 games last year.

Bodenmiller started 13 games in net for the Muskies and ended her season with a team-high 103 saves and four wins between to the pipes. She also notched two shutouts and was part of a combined shutout.

Also adding depth and looking to make a presence this fall for the Muskies will be sophomore forward Reanne Brooks, sophomore defender Sarah McElwain, sophomore goalie Madee Shipley, senior forward Alei Yost, and senior forward Emily Roberts.

Muskingum opens up their fall campaign at Earlham on Friday, August 30. The Muskies' home opener is Wednesday, September 4, against Geneva at the North Athletic Turf Field. Muskingum opens up OAC play on Saturday, October 5, at John Carroll.
