Women’s Lacrosse drops hard-fought battle to Mt. St. Joseph

The Muskingum women's lacrosse team fell in a hard-fought battle against Mt. St. Joseph, 14-8 on Wednesday night.

How it happened

  • Mount St. Joseph jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening period, before the Muskies answered back with a goal of their own from freshman Riley Zwagerman.
  • The Muskies struck their second goal from freshman Riley Hudock in the closing minutes of play to trim the Lion lead. The Lions led the Muskies 3-2.
  • Muskingum quickly knotted the score at three as Hudock found the back of the net in the opening seconds of the second quarter. Both squads battled back-in-forth, but it was Muskingum who gained momentum and used a 5-2 advantage to take a 7-5 lead over the Lions heading into the break.
  • Mount St. Joseph used a 9-1 second-half surge to claim a 14-8 victory. 

Inside the Numbers

  • Muskingum was led by freshman Riley Hudock with a team-best four goals. She registered 16 shots and had two caused turnovers.
  • Freshman Riley Zwagerman tallied one goal, had three assists and secured three groundballs for the Muskies.
  • Freshman Anneliese Mercuri secured five groundballs, while freshman Megan Lang scooped up three.
  • Sophomore Goalie Cailin Wise notched 12 saves in 60 minutes of work for the Muskies.
