Women's Lacrosse eyes strong campaign

The Muskingum women's lacrosse team, under the direction of head coach Taylor Graf, looks to take big strides in the spring. With five letterwinners, all of which were starters, and a blue-chip recruiting class, the Muskies are ready to be competitive in both conference and non-conference games.

Leading the charge for the Muskies are senior Dani Crisp, sophomore Carly Spitz, sophomore McKenzie Fuller, and sophomore Jacie Clifton. The quad of returners played a big roll in Muskingum's record-breaking performance against Waynesburg last season. In that contest, Muskingum scored a school-record 22 goals and set the school record for draw controls with 23.

Crisp, a two-year captain, started all 16 games for the Muskies. She ended the season second on the team in goals (17) and assists (3). Crisp also grabbed 19 ground balls, secured 29 draw controls, and caused six turnovers.

Spitz, a first-year captain and OAC Women's Lacrosse Attacker of the Week nominee, started all sixteen games for Muskingum. Last season, she registered a team-high goals (15) and assists (11). Spitz also recorded 35 draw controls and caused seven turnovers. Spitz broke the school record for assists in a game against Marietta (4) and surpassed the school record for assists in a season (11).

In her first season for the Muskies, Fuller started every game. She secured four goals, grabbed 25 ground balls, and caused nine turnovers. Fuller also broke the school record for most draw controls in a season with 65.

Clifton started 14 games and finished the season with 17 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.

The Muskies host the St. Vincent Bearcats on Saturday, February 22, for their 2020 season home opener. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m. Muskingum begins conference play on Saturday, March 21, when the John Carroll Blue Streaks come to the North Athletic Turf Field for an OAC showdown. The start time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
