The Muskingum University Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Kelly Broderick as head coach of the women's basketball program.
Broderick arrives in New Concord after serving the past four seasons as the women's basketball head coach at Medaille College in Buffalo, New York. Under Broderick's guidance, 17 student-athletes earned academic all-conference honors, while several of her players earned all-conference accolades. She coached several players who ended their careers ranked in the top 10 at Medaille in scoring, assists, and rebounds. Broderick was also responsible for all recruiting, coordinating all scouting for the program, leading all fundraising efforts for the team, and implementing community service projects for her student-athletes. Along with her coaching duties, Broderick served as a travel and contest coordinator at Medaille, an advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and founded the school's Leadership Academy.
"I am thrilled to welcome Kelly to Muskie Athletics! She brings a strong vision and a true passion for coaching and building relationships with those associated with the basketball program," said Muskingum Director of Athletics Kari Winters. "I am confident that she will continue moving the program in a strong direction."
Before her time at Medaille, Broderick served as the head women's basketball coach for two years at Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC). While at FLCC, Broderick accumulated an overall record of 46-13 and was a two-time recipient of the Mid-State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year award. She led the team to a regular season and tournament championship during the 2017-18 campaign. The team also advanced to the regional semifinals that same year.
"I am very excited about joining the Muskie Family. Coaching basketball and inspiring young women to be the best has always been a passion of mine, and I look forward to being able to continue that at Muskingum," said Broderick. "My goal at Muskingum will be to create a basketball program that will emanate class, be respected by all, and make everyone associated with Muskingum proud. I am very excited to start working with the outstanding young women on the team. I look forward to the successes we will achieve together this year and beyond."
Before her coaching career, Broderick had a two-year career at FLCC, followed by a two-year stint at Nazareth College. As a player at FLCC, her team made it to the Mid-State Athletic Conference Championship game her first year and were Region 3 Quarter-Finalists both years. Broderick ranks eighth in Finger Lakes history in three-pointers made in a season. At Nazareth, Broderick helped the team win 33 games and advance to the Empire 8 Conference Tournament Final Four each year.
Along with her head coaching and playing experience, Broderick has also served as a coach for the Buffalo Titans AAU team, a basketball camp counselor at Nazareth, and a Recreation Leader for Canandaigua Parks and Recreation.
Broderick graduated from Finger Lakes in 2014 with an Associate's Degree in liberal arts and humanities. She earned her B.S. in psychology and B.A. in mathematics from Nazareth in 2016.
