#FlashBackFriday - Honoring Muskingum championships, All-Americans and Hall of Fame members

The 1990-91 Muskingum women's basketball team finished second in the country and ended the year with an outstanding 28-5 record.

The Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament championship team and NCAA Division III National runner up featured sophomore guard Andrea Weininger, sophomore forward Laurie Deal, sophomore guard Michelle Harkness, sophomore guard Debbie Harstock, sophomore center/forward Toni Moone, sophomore forward Arica Robbins, sophomore guard Diana Smith, junior forward Molly Pierce, sophomore center/forward Kriss Ayers, junior guard Michelle Snow, sophomore forward Carrie Setla, freshman guard/forward Chris Hill, freshman forward Kim Mortimer, freshman forward Aimee Petroshus, freshman guard Tami Smith, freshman guard Tracie Thompson, freshman guard/forward Missy Tiber, senior guard Kate Titus, freshman center Theresa DiAntonio, freshman center Jenni Yontz, Head Coach Donna Newberry, and Assistant Coach Kathy Lee.

Muskingum's 28 wins rank second all-time in Muskie history, and Muskingum's second-place finish was the highest ever by an OAC team in the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship. Following the season, Laurie Deal and Kate Titus were named Second Team All-OAC and Michelle Snow was named Honorable Mention All-OAC. Titus and Snow were also recognized for their play in the NCAA Tournament by being named to the all-tournament squad. 

The Muskies also excelled in the classroom as Kate Titus was named First Team Academic All-OAC, and Michelle Harkness was named Second Team Academic All-OAC.

 

Today, five members of the 1990-91 team are in the Muskingum Hall of Fame - Laurie Deal, Michelle Harkness, Katie Titus, Andrea Weininger, and Head Coach Donna Newberry. 

Notables

  • Muskingum beat #1 ranked Capital in back-to-back games to win the OAC Tournament and the opening game of the NCAA Tournament.
  • Muskingum entered the NCAA Final Four on a 12-game winning streak, which was the longest of any team in the tournament.
  • The NCAA appearance was the fourth for the Muskies.
  • The NCAA Final Four berth was the first-ever for Muskingum. 
  • Muskingum won four NCAA Tournament games to reach the finals. 
  • Muskingum set OAC team records for points (2,601), most field goals attempted (2,364), most field goals made (988), three-point field goals made (132), most free throws made (493), and most rebounds in a season (1,409).
