Softball sweeps Marietta 

The Muskingum softball team wrapped up their weekend sweeping Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Marietta in doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon. The Muskies defeated the Pioneers in game one 5-3 and took the nightcap, 9-7.

Game One

How it Happened

  • The Muskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning.
  • A two-run blast from Claire Warschauer stretched the Muskie lead 4-0.
  • Muskingum plated its final run off a Warschauer sacrifice fly, making it 5-0 heading into the seventh.
  • Marietta cut the deficit with a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh, but its rally fell short, as Muskingum secured a 5-3 game one victory.

Inside the Numbers

  • Muskingum scored five runs off six hits.
  • Senior Hannah Smith secured her 12th win on the mound, tossing a complete game with eight strikeouts. 
  • Junior Claire Warschauer led the Muskie bats with a two-run home run and three RBIs.
  • Junior Carlee Lamacz added two hits.
  • Senior Cristianna Boggs, senior Haley Hawk, and freshman Kodi Brenner ended the contest with one hit apiece.
  • Marietta was led by Paige Adams with three RBIs.

Game Two

How it Happened

  • Muskingum jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning.
  • Marietta answered quickly plating four runs, which included a Jess Brown two-run blast. The Pioneers held a 4-2 advantage after four innings of play.
  • The Muskies scored two runs in the fifth to tie the ballgame from Warschauer and Hawk RBIs.
  • Muskingum plated two runs in the sixth to take the lead off Lamacz's and Warschsuer's RBIs. The Muskies held a 6-4 edge after six innings.
  • The Muskies would go on to plate three more runs, holding a 9-4 advantage heading into the bottom half of the seventh.
  • The Pioneers' rally came up short in the seventh as they were only able to plate three runs. Muskingum secured the sweep winning the nightcap 9-7.

Inside the Numbers

  • Muskingum scored nine runs off nine hits.
  • Freshman Alyssa Marlatt tossed 3.1 innings and secured one strikeout.
  • Warschauer and Lamacz led the Muskies' offense with two hits and two RBIs apiece.
  • Junior Sarah Piteo finished with one hit and two RBIs.
  • Senior Haley Hawk ended the game with one hit and one RBI.
  • Sophomore Autumn Chorba and Brenner ended with one RBI apiece.
  • Jess Brown led Marietta with three RBIs.
