The Muskingum softball team split their Ohio Athletic Conference road doubleheader against John Carroll on Tuesday. Muskingum won the opener 7-5 and fell in the nightcap 4-3.
Game One
The Basics
- Records: Muskingum (16-5 Overall, 2-1 OAC), John Carroll (7-6-1 Overall, 0-1 OAC)

Inside the Numbers
- Muskingum scored seven runs on 13 hits.
- Senior Hannah Smith fired 5.2 innings of work and registered five strikeouts to secure her eighth win of the season in the circle.
- The Muskies were led by senior Cristianna Boggs who finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
- Junior Claire Warshauer finished 2-for-3 with one run scored, an RBI, and a home run.
- Senior Haley Hawk and junior Taylor Gallentine each finished with two hits and an RBI apiece.
- Senior Katie Osburn and sophomore Kalie Eshelman added one hit and an RBI.
- The Blue Streaks were led by Gracie Bressoud who finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
How it Happened
- Muskingum jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning off a Hawk two-out RBI single to right-center.
- John Carroll knotted the game at one in the bottom of the first inning off a Kristen Jesberger RBI single to left-center field.
- Warshauer recaptured the Muskie lead in the second inning with a solo home run to give Muskingum a 2-1 advantage.
- The Blue Streaks tied the game at two apiece in the bottom of the second inning off a Gracie Bressoud RBI single up the middle.
- In the sixth, with two out and two runners on, the Muskies delivered clutch hitting to plate four runs on four hits to grab a 6-2 advantage.
- Muskingum plated their final run of the game off an Eshelman RBI single to right field.
- John Carroll threatened in the bottom of the seventh but a stellar Muskie double play and a pop out to short ended the Blue Streak rally.
- Muskingum secured a 7-5 victory.
Game Two

- Location: Bracken Field – University Heights – Ohio
Inside the Numbers
- Muskingum scored three runs on six hits.
- Hawk, Osburn, and Piteo ended the contest with one hit and an RBI apiece.
- Warshauer finished 2-for-2 at the plate.
- Gallentine added a hit to round out the Muskie offensive effort.
- John Carroll was led by Serena Paterno who went 2-for-3 and had 2 RBIs.
How it Happened
- John Carroll jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the opening inning off a Paterno single.
- The Blue Streaks added three more runs in the fifth inning to push their lead out to 4-0.
- The Muskies used clutch hitting to plate three runs on four hits to draw within one run of the Blue Streaks. John Carroll held a 4-3 lead heading into the home half of the sixth.
- The Muskies would get a runner on but were unable to bring her in as the Blue Streaks won game two, 4-3.
