Softball drops a pair of games on their last day at THE Spring Games

Saturday, March 7- The Muskies dropped a pair of games on their last day at THE Spring Games. The Muskies fell to MSOE in five innings (10-1) and slipped to 21st-ranked Wartburg (12-2) in five innings.

Muskingum secured one run on six hits in the MSOE game. Junior Karsyn Shaffer went 2-of-2 at the plate, guiding the Muskies with a sacrifice bunt and one stolen base. Sophomore Haley Hawk belted a double, while junior Riley Powers smacked a one-run infield single down the right line. Powers also locked in a sacrifice bunt. Sophomore Hannah Smith pitched 3.1 innings in the circle for the Muskies. Smith allowed six runs on seven hits, recording one strikeout. Sophomore Sarah Mills also saw action on the mound for Muskingum, scattering two hits and allowing four runs.

In the Wartburg game, Muskingum recorded two runs on 10 hits. Junior Shaena Mayer and freshman Carlee Lamacz paved the way for the Muskies with one RBI each. Junior Hannah Duff pitched 4.2 innings for the Muskies, allowing 11 runs on eight hits and registering three strikeouts. Smith also saw action in game two for Muskingum, allowing one run on one hit and securing one strikeout.

Friday, March 6- The Muskingum softball team split on day five of THE Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The Muskies shut out Northland in their first game 9-0 in five innings and fell to Saint Joseph's (Me.) in their second game 1-0.

The Muskies grabbed nine runs on three hits against Northland. Powers guided the Muskies with three RBIs. Sophomore Cristianna Boggs stole a career-high three bases, while juniors Shaffer, Jaelyn Meade, Bailey Waitkus, and Powers chipped in one stolen base each. Smith tossed two innings, allowing no hits and registering two strikeouts. Mills pitched three innings and notched her first collegiate win in the circle for the Muskies.

In the Saint Joseph's (Me.) game, Muskingum tallied three hits. Waitkus led the Muskies with a sacrifice bunt, while freshman Hanna Moffett secured one stolen base. Sophomore Katie Osburn and Shaffer connected on a double play. Duff pitched a complete-game five-hitter, allowing one run and notching a game-high six strikeouts.

Thursday, March 5 - The Muskingum softball team's bats heated up on day four of THE Spring Games en route to a split. The Muskies dropped a hard-fought battle to Aurora 4-3 and dominated Saint Mary's (Minn.) in five innings, 9-1.

In the Aurora game, the Muskies scored three runs on five hits. Freshman Taylor Gallentine led the Muskingum offense with a two-run double to left center. Boggs and Shaffer chipped in one double each. Waitkus notched one stolen base. The freshman duo of Claire Warschauer and Lamacz and Shaffer connected to record a total of two double plays. Duff pitched the entire six innings in the circle for the Muskies, allowing four runs on nine hits, and locking in two strikeouts.

Powers drilled a walk-off two-run single to right field to lock in the five-inning victory against Saint Mary's (Minn.), 9-1. Muskingum secured nine runs on a game-high nine hits. Boggs went 2-of-3 at the plate, guiding the Muskies with one double and two RBIs. Freshman Hallie Bennett chipped in a two-run single down the right field line, while Lamacz grabbed a one-run double to left field. Gallentine also secured an RBI. Freshman Mickayla Malone, junior Alexia Dowdle, and Shaffer tallied one stolen base each. Smith tossed the entire game for the Muskies. She held the Cardinals to one run on four hits, matching her career-high strikeouts in a game with seven.

Tuesday, March 3 - The Muskingum softball team split on day three of THE Spring Games. The Muskies defeated the Bluffton Beavers 1-0 and fell to Saint Benedict 10-1.

In the Bluffton game, Duff pitched her first collegiate complete game no-hitter with a game-high six strikeouts en route to a 1-0 triumph over Bluffton on day three of THE Spring Games. The Muskies scored one run on nine hits. Lamacz and Boggs belted one double each. Gallentine secured the lone RBI for the Muskies.

Muskingum registered one run on five hits against Saint Benedict. Hawk led the Muskies with a double to right center, while Gallentine notched one RBI. Smith saw 2.1 innings of action in the circle for the Muskies, allowing five runs on five hits and locking in two strikeouts. Duff pitched 2.2 innings for the Muskies, allowing four runs on six hits.

Monday, March 2- The Muskingum softball team locked in back-to-back victories in day two of THE Spring Games. The Muskies defeated Franklin 1-0 and notched a 3-1 triumph against Loras.

Against Franklin, Muskingum scored one run on three hits. Boggs paved the way for the Muskies. Boggs went 2-of-3 at the plate, belting an RBI triple down the left field line. Gallentine and Mayer registered one sacrifice bunt each. The Muskies also flashed their leather in the field with the freshmen tandem of Lamacz and Warschauer and Shaffer all combining to record two double plays. Duff registered her first win of the season in the circle for the Muskies. She pitched a complete game five-hitter and recorded two strikeouts.

The Muskies locked in three runs on four hits in the game against Loras. Waitkus directed Muskingum with a two-run double to center field. Waitkus also secured one stolen base. Boggs grabbed a team-high two stolen bases, while Warschauer recorded a sacrifice bunt. Smith pitched the entire game for the Muskies, locking in her first win of the year, securing two strikeouts and scattering five hits.

Sunday, March 1 - The Muskingum softball team dropped a pair of games on Opening Day at THE Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The Muskies dropped a hard-fought 4-1 battle to York (Pa.) and fell to Wartburg 10-1.

The Muskies scored one run on eight hits against York (Pa.). Dowdle led the Muskies with one RBI and one stolen base. Shaffer recorded one sacrifice bunt. Duff pitched a complete game five-hitter for the Muskies. Duff notched three strikeouts.

Against Wartburg, the Muskies recorded one run off of three hits. Hawk led the Muskies with one RBI. Meade chipped in one double, while Lamacz notched one stolen base. Smith pitched a total of six innings in the circle for the Muskies. Smith tallied a game-high five strikeouts. Freshman Skylar Lafferty saw her first collegiate outing for the Muskies, pitching one inning, allowing three runs on two hits and recording one strikeout. 

The Muskies next face DePauw (11:30 a.m.) and Trine (2:00 p.m.) on Saturday, March 14 at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.
