Men’s Soccer slips in physical battle vs. Marietta

 The Muskingum men's soccer team slipped in a physical battle to OAC-foe Marietta, 3-1 on Wednesday evening. 

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (2-7 overall, 1-1 OAC), Marietta (4-4-3 overall, 2-0 OAC)
  • Location: North Athletic Turf Field

How it Happened

  • The first half saw both teams tied, 0-0.
  • Mahfuz Yakubu broke the scoreless contest at the 59:03 mark giving the Muskies the 1-0 lead.  
  • The Pioneers evened the score, 1-1 at the 61:13 mark off a Caden Ferguson goal.
  • Marietta jumped ahead, 2-1 at the 79:24 mark off a Jacob Roberto made penalty kick.
  • Continuing their offensive push, Marietta scored the final goal of the night at the 83:20 mark off an Elliot Britton strike to secure a 3-1 road victory. 

Inside the Numbers

  • Junior Mahfuz Yakubu led the Muskie attack with a goal. 
  • Senior Dilpreet Sandhu and Junior Morgan McKenna rounded out the Muskingum offensive effort with one shot apiece.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Evan Laraba snagged three saves in 90 minutes of work between the pipes for the Muskies.
  • Jacob Roberto, Caden Ferguson, and Elliot Britton led the Pioneer offense with one goal apiece.
  • Marietta goalkeeper Joey Backhaus secured one save in 90 minutes of work in goal.

  • Muskingum is back in action on Saturday, October 8, when they travel to Westerville to take on Otterbein in OAC action. Game time is set for 2 PM.
